Scribner; November 2011; 960 pages

Genre: Novel

Synopsis: High school English teacher, Jake Epping, has discovered a portal to the past and intends to completely alter history by preventing President John F. Kennedy’s  assassination. It is, after all, his dying friend Al’s final request. While back in time, Jake takes on a high school teaching job in Jodie, Texas under the pseudonym “George.”  Would a time travel novel be complete without a love interest? Enter Sadie Dunhil. Sadie is a fellow teacher and she and Jake are in love, but she doesn’t really know why he’s in Texas or who he really is. Can a love like theirs ever be? To what lengths must Jake go to keep President Kennedy alive? Will Jake succeed? If he does, how will this change the future?

What reviewers have to say: Nothing yet, but Jonathan Demme has already optioned the rights to the book.

Related books: The Forgotten Waltz by Anne Enright and The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh

My gut reaction: Absolutely. And when I’m done, I’ll be ready to compare it to Demme’s flim.

Probably not. Do not enjoy this author’s style.

I absolutely loved this book! For the first time, time travel makes some sense without some kind of crafty expedient. Excellent historical research: I’ve checked all that concerns Oswald, his associates, etc. and it’s quite accurate. An excellent thriller, Stephen King’s style, based on historical facts. I highly recommend it!
