Jennifer Miller Brings Home a Strong Role Model for Teens and a Critically-Acclaimed Novel

inReads asked Jennifer Miller–author of The Year of the Gadfly published earlier this month–why it was important to her to participate in the Gaithersburg Book Festival. She explains:
My debut novel, The Year of the Gadfly, features a teenage journalist who believes a strong and independent student press can change the culture of secrecy and hypocrisy at her conservative prep school.
I wanted to bring this strong-minded young protagonist to a new generation of students–and parents!—in my home state. (I grew up in Maryland and was editor-in-chief of my high school newspaper.) I’m also a co-judge for the festival’s teen writing contest and will be presenting the awards on Saturday.
The book trailer for The Year of the Gadfly features a mind-boggling number of renowned journalists (including Brian Williams, Andrea Mitchell, Sam Donaldson, Christiane Amanpour and even non-journalist James Baker!) reading from the book. Enjoy:
