Washington Nationals Help Military Families to be United Through Reading
At military installations across the world, technology allows members of the armed forces more contact than ever with those they left behind. Military personnel serving abroad can talk to family face-to face on Skype and video chat, while emails carry news from home to war zone and back faster than any paper mail system could. And thanks to the United Through Reading’s Military Program, parents can even share their love of reading with a nightly bedtime story, from thousands of miles, or oceans away.
United Through Reading® uses technology to give families facing physical separation the ability to share a story. A parent picks a book and records a DVD reading the story, then ships the book and DVD to a child or relative at home. Miles away, the child can read the chosen book accompanied by the DVD. Meanwhile, a parent at home can record the child’s reaction and return it to the military family member who is away, allowing families to share a story without having to share a home.
The Washington Nationals welcome members, friends and family of United Through Reading with specially discounted tickets for regular season games.
A portion of the proceeds from every one of these tickets sold will be donated to United Through Reading.
