Did you finish 2019 feeling tired, over worked or even, to be frank, completely burnt out? Do you want to avoid bringing that feeling over to a brand-new year and a brand-new decade?
Well, you are not alone. On average, 60% of people make New Year’s Resolutions, and this being the start of a new decade will mean that some people resolutions are going to be pretty hefty ones.
There is no need to make enormous or impractical New Year’s resolutions that could back fire and negatively impact your year, instead maybe just opt for a change. A change is as good as a rest, so here is a list of 4 changes that might benefit your life in 2020:
1. Change of style
A key way of leaving the tired, burnt out you in 2019 is to give yourself a revamp. Changing yourself can have negative connotations because you can view it as thinking the old you was inadequate. However, this does not have to be the case. Think of yourself as a car in need of an oil change. Changing the oil doesn’t make the car any more or less adequate, it just helps to keep the car healthy and running smoothly.
This kind of change is perfect for the New Year, jump start 2020 with a new hair style or a change in wardrobe. Even something as simple as throwing out your old ratty dressing gown and replacing it with a new one from the January sales can do you the world of good and can put a positive spin on your post New Year slump.
2. Change of beauty routine
Or in some people’s cases: start a beauty routine. This doesn’t have be slathering your skin in every expensive moisturiser you can lay your hands on but can be as easy as making sure you wash your face before you go to bed. A routine before bedtime can improve your mood and can even help you get more sleep.
Take time to take care of yourself; get a pedicure and make your feet silky smooth or even grow the beard you’ve always wanted with a beard transplant. It is your body and you should like how you feel within it. Make sure to take time to take care of your body, both inside and out.
3. Change of scenery
There is a whole world out there for you to explore, maybe 2020 will be your year to get out of your comfort zone and see something new. A change of scenery could be you booking your next holiday to somewhere far flung and exotic, or it could be you spending the weekend in a shepherd’s hut on the Yorkshire Moors. Either way, change the view from your window and see how much of a lift it can give your spirits.
There is a long list of the therapeutic benefits of getting out into nature including: reducing stress, keeping you active, boosting your happiness – you can get all that from just a small change of scenery. You don’t have to up sticks and move to other side of the world to get those benefits either, explore what is on your doorstep. Spend a day as a tourist in your local town and see it through the eyes of a visitor, it is as easy that.
4. Change of pace
You may have heard people say that the world moves too fast nowadays and you might be inclined to think that they are correct. Do you ever find yourself walking in a busy city and becoming out of breath? Just keeping up with the pace at which people move around you can be exhausting. Remember to slow down this year, take some time out, listen to your body when it tells you to rest.
Slowing yourself down can have some real health benefits for you both physically and mentally. Slowing down means you are less prone to injury which physically can make you feel much better. Mentally, slowing down can be achieved through meditation and mindfulness. Relaxation is often thought as being akin to laziness, but it is important to remember that you are only human and that relaxing and taking time for yourself is key to helping improve your health and happiness, therefore improving your life.
Change can be scary but it can also be hugely beneficial for you. Take time this New Year to make a note of any small, or big, changes you want to see in your life for 2020.
