4 Active Activities in Oxfordshire
Oxfordshire is in the heart of England and offers plenty to see and do. Oxford is the biggest city in the county and is famous for many reasons – for its historic university and college buildings, for its links to countless TV shows and feature films, and for its interesting architecture. Oxfordshire is also packed with features and things to do. Oxford and Oxfordshire are the ideal places to visit for an active holiday. Here are some of the things you can do to keep busy in Oxfordshire, whether outdoor or inside.
1. Walk the City
One of the best things about Oxford itself is that many of its attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. Walking around the city, whether independently or on a walking tour, is a great way to see the sights and get a feel for the city. Check out the shops and the colleges, the historic churches, the covered market, and the lovely buildings like the old theatre and the City Museum. Create your own route or get a map from the tourist office and follow a set route at your own pace.
2. Get Some Golf
Visit an oxfordshire golf club for a round of golf on a world-class course, in stunning settings. Every Oxfordshire golf course is unique, and there are quite a few to choose from. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, Oxford golf is of a great standard and you can also find great facilities and amenities close to the courses such as spas and swimming pools.
3. Browse the Pitt Rivers Museum
It may not be particularly active, but wandering around this fascinating museum will really take some time. The museum houses an outstanding collection of weird and wonderful objects from around the world. It is a wonderful place to lose yourself for a few hours, taking in the different objects, and you can also pay a visit to the Natural History Museum next door.
4. Take a Beer Tour
For a rather different active activity, tour the city of Oxford via its famous public houses. There are a great many pubs to visit, from the ancient to the modern. Take a tour and stop at the Lamb and Flag for its literary connections, then visit a city centre pub for some lunch and to watch the world go by as you sit on a table by the window.
Oxfordshire has plenty to offer anyone on an active holiday, whether you want to walk or hike, bike or sail. There are plenty of sporting events to watch, and you can take part in all manner of sporting activities.
