Dubai, 50 Years Later
Do you remember the movie Star Trek Beyond which was a huge hit back in 2016? Well, Dubai was where the famous location, Yorktown, was shot. It is the massive space town which welcomed the USS Enterprise in 2263 for supplies. Indeed, that was a sci-fi movie, but in the near future, Dubai might look like that fantasy location! Atkins, the leading engineering, design and project management firms in the Middle East, which helped to bring to life the Dubai Opera, Burj Al Arab, Dubai Metro and Bahrain World Trade Center, has already predicted the future of Dubai, and it looks promising. Some projects which are already in the pipeline are:
Sixth Crossing Bridge
Also known as Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Crossing, the Sixth Crossing will be the longest arch bridge of the world, with a key span of 667 metres long. The total length of the bridge will be of 1.6 kilometres with a width of 64 metres. Plus, it will be 15 metres above the waters. The budget of this bridge rises to 2.5 billion and is being designed by FXFOWLE Architects. Initially this project was meant to be completed by 2015, but it is still in the pipeline.
Bluewaters Island Project
Comprising of residential, commercial and leisure space, the Bluewaters will be the main masterpiece of the area. The 210-metre Ferris Wheel which will offer breath-taking views of Dubai will be the centrepiece of the project. The piazza which will be at the bottom of the wheel will serve as an entertainment zone, and will also be available for private events, conferences or weddings. It is advisable to set a barrier system like Retractable Stanchions to guide the flow of the guest during these events. As an addition, there will be a large LED screen on the wheel for broadcasting movies, information and advertisements. The display quality will be as good as the graphics of the games proposed by New Look Bingo. This mobile bingo site offers top notch slot games and grand bingo rooms, which feel almost realistic. Other thrilling places will be souq and a 5-star hotel. This project was started in 2013, and hasn’t yet been completed.
Aladdin City
The Aladdin City project has been inspired by the tales of the same name. The project was announced back in 2014 by the Dubai Municipality, and it could become a reality very soon. The concept of this project is to have three main buildings which comprise of commercial offices and hotel space. The three towers will be spread over a distance of 450 metres but will all be located at Al Rigga on Dubai Creek. The work has already begun but there’s no fixed date for the opening.
Nakheel Mall
Nakheel Mall is the next focus of Palm Jumeirah. This shopping mall will have more than five retail levels with over 100,000 square metres of shop space, basement with 4,000 parking spaces and over 200 shops. It might even have a cinema complex with nine screens and a fitness centre. Foodies will find happiness at the roof where restaurants outlets will be opened. This project was meant to be completed in 2016, but it is still getting done.
