3. During his two terms as president, Reagan was able to bring about many positive changes
During his presidency, Reagan was able to cut taxes and reform federal spending, negotiated a successful nuclear arms reduction agreement and orchestrate a quick end to the ongoing Cold War. Interestingly while Reagan was able to slash taxes, he still was able to find more money in the federal bank account to increase military spending. Which helped increase the country’s economy.
4. Reagan survived a serious assassination attempt on its life
Ronald Reagan was fortunate enough to survive a serious assassination attempt on his life. When in 1981 a shooter by the name John Hickley attempted to shoot fatally Reagan when Reagan attempted to leave a speaking engagement which was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel on the 30th of March, 1981.
Five of the six shots which Hickley aimed at Reagan missed the president, however, one shot hit Reagan under his left arm and punctured his lung. As a result of the hit, Reagan also suffered internal bleeding. However, the assassination attempt on Reagan’s life was ultimately unsuccessful and Reagan made a full recovery.
5. Reagan earned the nickname the great communicator
Ronald Reagan earned the public nickname of the great communicator as he was one of the most effective public speakers in history and could instantly capture the attention of a crowd.
